What I like to do with this top section is, I’m gonna take a horizontal section. Same thing, clamp, curl, holding onto the ends, and then pulling straight down. Once I get to about a half point on the head, this way I’m curling away from the face, so I want to do the same thing on this side. I’m gonna let these cool down and I’m gonna continue around her head. This is a style that you want it to be a little bit messier too. Once I have about an inch or so at the bottom, I’m gonna pull straight down. I’m gonna take it, I’m gonna clamp and curl at the same time, holding onto the ends the entire movement. So when I’m doing this, I’m gonna be holding my flat iron at a vertical point. One thing that you do want to make sure that your flat iron has is these rounded edges. I like to use the flat iron for shorter texture, and I like the curling iron for more of the longer hair. I’m gonna start off by sectioning her hair, and I am gonna go right above her ears and back. This kinda helps hold the style, makes it a little bit easier. I’m gonna start by grabbing my styling lotion, and I’m just giving her a few sprays. So what we’re gonna do, we’ve already prepped her with a heat protectant, and we’ve round brushed to give her some of that volume. Hi, I’m Stephanie from Grand Salon and today I will be showing you guys how to do the lived-in beach wave curls with Megan here. Use mousse for some help. With Stephanie Jordan of Grand Salon, this tutorial shows you how to put some beach wave curls in your hair while preserving your length and body. In the morning, you will have some gorgeous-looking waves that last all day. Hold the twists together with small ponytails and spritz your buns with some sea salt spray. This involves creating tight mini-twists throughout your hair using a flat iron. To achieve longer-lasting beachy waves, you can also start at bedtime. Lock in your new beach waves hair look with a hairspray that keeps your look in place while also keeping strands from frizzing out. To make sure you’re spraying hair evenly, form the capital letter L with your arms when spraying. Next, run fingers vertically through the hair to further separate each spiral and create a messier, beachy wavy hair feel. Here’s the fun part: After all sections are evenly curled, gently tug each section down to loosen the spiral. Ed’s tip: Twist hair away from the face for a more flattering look. After you’re done curling your bottom sections, unclamp one side of your top sections and repeat the curling process with a flat iron: Insert it between the tongs to lock in the hair, then close the tongs and curl hair over and around while tugging. The hairline is a crucial section when creating wavy hair, as it’s the area that people notice the most. For help, check out this nifty tutorial on how to best create wavy hair with a flat iron. Next, curl hair around the closed tongs-essentially using them as a curling wand-while gently tugging hair through in bursts, creating a more angular bend. Working on the bottom sections first, take one section and insert it briefly between the two tongs before clamping the tongs shut. Step 5: Twist sections around a closed flat iron.Ī flat iron can usually give a chunkier, more deliberately tousled look to wavy hair versus a rounded curling iron. Begin to divide the bottom part into three sections-left, right and center-and clamp off with clips too. Using the end of a rat-tail comb, section off the top part of your hair from one ear across to the other, divide into left and right sections and clamp each up with a duckbill clip. Holding hair around 12 inches from your head, spray an even coating of a wave-creating agent on your lengths for a beachy, salted look. Step 3: Coat your hair lightly with a texturizing spray. Blow-dry your hair until it’s at least 90% dry, or just barely damp to the touch. For extra bounce, use a diffuser attachment and aim the nozzle from the ends upwards. Use a spray that shields hair from heat damage, such as Dove Style + Care Smooth and Shine Heat Protection Spray, before blowdrying hair on a medium setting.
